I have the schematic to the Torpedo Launcher 3 baseboard from the Torpedo development kit.  The board uses a LAN9221 to achieve Ethernet connectivity and we plan on using this in our custom design.  A small EEPROM, the AT93C46 from Atmel is attached through a 3-wire port, presumably to store the MAC address.  However the data sheet for the LAN9221 specifies a clock rate of approximately 900 kHz for this port (EECLK cycle time ~=  1120 ns) while the data sheet for the AT93C46 specifies a maximum clock rate of 250 kHz with a 1.8V supply as is shown on the schematic.  Can the data rate from the LAN9221 be controlled or how else is this discrepancy resolved?  Thank you.

That's interesting. We've put in a request with one of the hardware engineers to find out the history on the part in the event its specifications may have changed over time.

In the mean time, you may want to consider an alternate part: Microchip 93AA46C
