How do I use this? i.e., how do I set up my linuxbps to do exactly this?

I'd like to trial this with the Zip Lite. Do you guys have a guide on how to set up the LinuxBPS for this? Preferably using the ltib.

Zip Lite isn't a separate package within the LTIB. It was development effort spent to reduce the boot time for NAND as much as possible with the default BSP without extensive modifications. The 2.4-2 BSP already includes these free optimizations to reduce the boot time. The Test Plan Log includes the boot time testing for the T+W module:

    SD card(T+W)
    Logic splash screen: ~2sec
    Tux: ~33sec
    Linux Prompt: ~48sec

    NAND(T+W)
    Logic splash screen: ~2sec
    Tux: ~13sec
    Linux Prompt: ~32sec

We did not retest the boot time with the standard Torpedo, however we expect them to be similar. If you are interested in a Zip demo, please contact us and we can have a Sales representative present our Zip demo to you.
