    Hi,
I am unable to figure out which pins of the SOM-M1 connect to the user LED1/LED2 on the experimenter kit.
The LEDs are labelled as D1/D2, but i can't figure out which of the (possibly GPIO) pins these are.

Is the documentation insufficient or is it very obvious for embedded developers?

    Regards
    Manik

    Manik,
User LED 1 and User LED 2 are on D2/D3. They are tied to an I2C I/O expander located on the same schematic page, U9, at PO7 and PO6.

You will have to get the datasheet for the TCA6416. You have to send bytes over I2C to enable the needed outputs, then send bytes to turn the outputs on and off. Be careful though. The board reset is also connected to the same output bank. Enable that and you will have to hit the power switch to reboot before you will be able to get the board running again.
