We have  received the  the EVM kit for repair at my office from CISCO, We observed that OMAP L138 SOM not responding properly,

Please advice on the below scenario on OMAP L138 SOM behavior.

    1. At power up , the OMAP L138 SOM is working and booted to Linux.  After few hours we did power cycle using the Power Switch in the base board,  the OMAP L138 -SOM is not

responding (Power LED not powered ON in the based board, But base board Power  LED powered ON with the C6748 SOM)

    2. After few hours we  again powered up the EVM kit with the OMAP L138 SOM , The OMAP L138 SOM is working again and booted to Linux..

It looks like OMAP L138 SOM not responding when i always do the power cycle on the EVM kit after some hours . What could be the issue?

    Narayan,

I would first suggest removing the SOM and re-inserting it into the socket firmly.  In the event of intermittent connectivity, you may see behavior like you are seeing.

The second thing to check is the power.  If the power switch isn't fully pressed to the on-side or the switch is damaged, it may have corrrectly power on the board.  I would check to make sure there is power from the power supply making it past the switch.

Let me know if you've tried those, and myself or another tech support person can offer more suggestions.

    Thank you,

    Hi Adam,

Thanks for the reply, I had already tried  both of the suggestions.

For your info , the Base board is working good without any issue with C6748 SOM, This confirms the baseboard and power switch is working good.

The issue happens only  with OMAP L138 SOM,

If the OMAP L138 SOM gets powered up, it is working good until the next  power cycle. After power cycle the OMAP L138 SOM is not responding sometimes (means No power LED ON ) we have to wait for some time(in hours) to  get it powered ON.

    Regards,

    Narayan.

I would start by resetting the SPI Flash. In here, u-boot resides and it it was starts up the Linux kernel.

I would suggest that you go through the steps to reprogram it using http://support.logicpd.co...rtalid=0&EntryId=778

The Linux BSP has a slightly newer version of u-boot, so you may want to read the instructions from the link above and use the files from the Linux BSP. I have updated the document listed above, but it's going through review. Once it's reviewed, the document will be updated with the u-boot files from the BSP.

Let me know how that goes.

I tried resetting the SPI Flash , The issue is still the same , When i switch off and switch on the board, the OMAP SOM will not getting Power up for some time(like 5 min -15min) on some occasions(means not all the time), What could be the issue? ,

Will the issue can be solved if i replace the OMAPL138 SOM?

I talked with a couple people here to figure out the best solution for you.  At this point, I would recommend to RMA the entire kit with the module.  Even though, there is a good possibility the base board is good, we would recommend you return the whole kit since the individual SOM has a different part number.

We don't do direct RMA, so you will need to go through the retail channel you used to purchase it originally.

I know this isn't want you wanted to hear.

    Hi Adam,

We are trying to create RMA through the distributor , but its a long process and its not yet completed , Now the Customer needs the kit with in a short time . So, its not possible to send the kit for Repair.

If I buy a new OMAP-L138 SOM. Will it solve the problem?.
    Please suggest.

    Regard,
    Narayan.

Without knowing what’s wrong with the original L138, it’s hard for me to say, but I wouldn't expect that behavior on a new unit. I do think if they are in a hurry to get the board that purchasing a second unit will be the quickest method. If issues arise with the new unit, we’re more than happy to help our on the forum.
