Connecting VS2005 to Windows CE 5.0 without Activesync

    We get this question a lot. Microsoft has lots of info about this, but here are some basics. You need to have a WinCE image running that has the cab installer included, active sync (even you aren't using it, I think), Wired Network support, Network utitlies (ipconfig, .etc), command window, command processor, network user interface, and a few others but these I think are the important ones. I think the cab installer is important one that people forget, since VS2005 will download some cab files to the device when it connects.

    I had some connection issues with VS2005 after I installed it. I used the faq section of this link to help me resolve them, which dealt with the 'corecon' settings. This link describes the issues when installing VS2006 and CE 6.0 on a machine that already has CE 5.0 installed.
