Following the simple instructions to put the sample image on the CF card and going in and mounting it I get:

error: mount: failed to open (ATA)

I see in some FAQ on the site that if you have this CF under XP it would not work and had to be done on W2K. Is this true? When I open in XP I can move the image there and see it.

    David,

Can you please tell me what kind of CF card you're trying to use?

    Thanks,

Check the partition. It has to be a primary FAT(16) partition. If it is FAT32, NTFS, or an extended partition, it won't work (currently).

lolo should support fat16 and fat32 as long as it is a primary partition. lolo does not support extended partions. if you have a cf card that is formatted for fat32, primary partition and it does not work I would like to know more about that.

I went into XP and formatted it FAT16. It had FAT, FAT32, and NTFS so I assume FAT is FAT16. Still same error message.

error: mount: failed to open (ATA)

I am searching for answers. Any help or pointers appreciated. Can I get the NK.bin file down any other way than off the CF card?

I'm using 2000, but XP has the equivalent:

Open Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Computer Management
    Select Storage | Disk Management

You will see if your card is formatted as a primary or an extended partition. If it is extended, you're out of luck* trying to reformat it under Windows. We had to buy a special CF IDE card and some special software to reformat our cards once Windows CE formatted them (CE always formats as extended).

As an alternative, if you have Platform Builder and the Logic components, you can (and should) build your own image and upload it over ethernet. You can even use an ethernet crossover cable if you don't have a network (like from a laptop).

(* If you or anyone else finds a way to reformat as a primary partition under Windows, let me know.)

THanks for the info on the ethernet. I was able to get the board configured, platform builder talking to it and when I try to attach the device and download I get:

error: bootme: address space does not fit in ram (0x1c9d094 bytes at 0x80100000)

Do I take this to mean my image size is too big for the RAM in the board? I would think so but thought I would verify. Still can't get the card to work and it is a primary partition.

does the CF card allocation size or size of card affect whether I can mount or not?

Your image is ~30MB. It won't fit.

My guess if you have built a debug image. Don't do that. Build a release version. If you need to debug it, there are other ways to do that.

We have had good luck formatting CF cards with this utility from HP: http://h18007.www1.hp.com.../download/20306.html
We are working on a document that will be posted soon addressing how to format your CF card within windows CE. There are a couple of bugs in the LoLo fatfs driver that seem to show up when a card was formerly something other than FAT16, and then is later formatted to FAT16. The bug fixes are incorporated into the next LoLo release and we working to make that available ASAP.

Thanks for the tool link. Used it and reformated the card. Still not able to mount it. Am I going to have to call support? This seems quite trivial to spend money on support for. I am at a total loss here.

What is the biggest size and image can be? If it is different how can you tell from the telnet session? Is there a way to query it? I build a release image at just over 16MB and got the same error.
