    Hello,

I am trying to install a linux image on a DM3730 SOM using OMAP35X development board, but the progress seems to get hung when I try the 'exec' command that is mentioned in the manual. I was wondering if the OMAP35x supports the DM3730 SOM .

    Abhishek,

In your post you mention you are using a Linux image on a DM3730 using the OMAP35x Development board. So that I can help you please identify if this Linux image is a default build image created by Logic PD or an image you built? If this is an image created by Logic PD, please indicate the source of this image. If this is an image you built, please indicate where you receive the BSP source files? The Logic PD releases have a 10xxxxx item number associated to each release. Please provide the 10xxxxx item number for your Linux BSP image or source. Please also provide the similar 10xxxxx number from the OMAP35x SOM seen on your development kit.

    Thanks,
    Brad

    Hi Brad,

Thank you for the speedy response. I am using a Linux Image created by Logic PD. The source of the image is https://support.logicpd.com/ProductDownloads/DM3730AM3703TorpedoSOM.aspx. The image has the tag 1026167. I am using a DM3730 SOM on OMAP35x zoom development board. The tag for the OMAP35x board is 1014845. The tag for the DM3730 SOM that I am using is 1017878.

Also, I erased the onboard logic loader by doing a erase /dev/nand0 B0 B2048. And board doesn't seem to power up anymore. Any suggestions ? Thanks.

As an update, I figured it might be the battery power that is causing the board to not boot. Right now the battery level is at 3.2 V and it fails to boot. Also, if anyone has had similar issues, on an average, how much time does it take for the board to charge ? Cause it is talking a lot of time to cross the 3.2V mark.

    Abhishek,

To charge the battery, I would recommend using the OMAP35x with the latest version of Logic Loader 2.4.16.   Versions prior to Logic Loader 2.4.9 prevented full charging.  More information on this can be seen in Devkit Errata E0005 and Devkit PCN 431.

While the DM37x might boot on the OMAP35x Launcher baseboard there are certain limitation you will have.  One of which is the USB Host controller.   The new Launcher baseboard provides an update USB Host controller, Wattson Power Measurement capability via a USB port, a 26-pin camera interface, and on-board battery charging.

With the OMAP35x Linux version 2.1 BSP the image was loaded with Logic Loader using the "exec" command.  When using the DM37x Linux 2.4-3 BSP, x-loader and u-boot was used in place of Logic Loader.  Therefore, you would no longer want to use Logic Loader to load your Linux image.  More information on loading your DM37x Linux BSP can be found in the DM37x Linux User Guide.

If you can, I would recommend updating to the DM37x Launcher 3 Baseboard.  The availability of the DM37x Torpedo & Torpedo + Wireless development kits can be seen in this link below.

Thank you for the response bradb.

About the battery charging procedure, as I mentioned, I was trying to update the logic loader version and hence performed the following command "erase /dev/nand0 B0 B2048" and I believe that erases the onboard logic loader. And since the board won't power up now, I don't see how I can update the logic loader version. Also, have you worked with the device before ? If so is 3.2 V on the battery too low for the board to boot up ? or is it that the board is damaged in someway ?

Thank you for the information regarding booting the linux images. Will try that.

    Abhishek,

If you copy Logic Loader 2.4.16 MLO (first) and then lboot.elf to the SD Card the system will boot from SD Card instead of NAND. While you might not see anything on the serial port keep the system on overnight. The system will continue to execute instructions and reboot until the battery is charged enough to remain at the Logic Loader prompt. Then you system will completely charge the battery. I recommend doing this with the OMAP35x Torpedo SOM.

The TPS65950 (on-board PMIC) power-on voltage for MAIN_BATTERY is 3.2V ±100mV at power-on. During runtime the minimum threshold for the battery is 2.7V at which the device will turn off.

Note: The preferred formatting tool for the SD card is the HP2.0.6 formatting tool which is available for download on the OMAP35x and DM37x Torpedo secure product pages.

    Thanks,
    Brad

    Brad,

Thank you for the valuable suggestions. Turns out that the DM3730 does not charge on the OMAP35x development board. I switched it with the OMP35x SOM and it started working almost instantaneously. The battery charged rapidly to 3.7 V.

After having the battery charged to 3.7 V. I replaced the OMAP35x SOM with the DM37x SOM and I saw that the battery was discharging again (at almost .001 V per second rate). It seems that the OMAP35x board does not support the DM37x SOM. Is my inference right ?

    Abhishek,

This is one of many limitations the OMAP35x Launcher baseboard has when using the DM37x Torpedo SOM.

As I mentioned before while the DM37x Torpedo SOM might boot on the OMAP35x Launcher baseboard there are certain limitation you will have. One of which is the USB Host controller. The new Launcher baseboard provides an updated USB Host controller, Wattson Power Measurement capability via a USB port, a 26-pin camera interface, and on-board battery charging.

    Best Regards,
    Brad
