Q: I have three modules in my possession that I have been testing, with part numbers SOMAM3517-10-1780FJCR-A (1016307), SOMAM3517-10-1780FJCR-C (1020547), and SOMAM3517-10-1780FJCR-D (1022935). I have gotten filesystem errors with C and D, but not A. I noticed in your PCN that the NAND flash had changed from rev A to B.

A: On the revisions with 4bit ECC NAND, update the NAND drivers to use OMAP_ECC_BCH4_CODE_HW

Here is the patch to make the change:

I am able to rebuild the kernel and u-boot with the changes you described. Your u-boot patch seems to apply to a more recent u-boot. I am using the one from PSP 04.02.00.00, but I inserted the change in the appropriate place.

I reflashed the kernel and root filesystem using "nandecc bch4_sw", and x-loader and u-boot with "nandecc hw 2" in u-boot. The initial boot-up of the filesystem appears okay. Then, I get the a bunch of "BCH decoding failed" on the next reboot. Any idea what this could be?

    Jeremy,

I believe all the correct steps were taken. I would like to see the log to see exactly where the BCH decoding errors are coming from. Also, I just recalled that we added a section to our Linux User's guide about applying this patch and burning the images. Send me the logs and you can take a look at the guide to see if anything was missed.

    Hi Steve,

Here is how I loaded the root filesystem and kernel, and the results.  The new u-boot was loaded before.  Let me know if you have questions.  I think that I loaded it correctly.

    Thanks,

    Jeremy

    Jeremy,

I am unable to spot the error. It looks correct, but obviously you are having some ECC issues. Go through the Linux Users Guide and follow each command exactly so I can more easily spot an error in your commands if it doesn't work the second time.

I did notice that you are using nand write instead of nand write.i, but I have checked the source for this command and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Regardless, also use the .i suffix when it is used in the guide.

    Hi Steve,

I figured out what was causing the problem - when I was flashing the custom filesystem, I was using a write size that was too large. When I wrote the flash using the filesystem size rounded to the next highest page, I no longer saw the "BCH decoding failed" message.

So far, so good with the ECC change - I ran the two failing boards overnight, and am not seeing a problem. I will run it longer to make sure there is no error.

I ran the problem boards for about a week, and have not seen a problem.  This appears to be the only problem.  Thank you.

When the AM3517-SOM-M2 product has a new hardware revision, does LogicPD have some automated way to notify people about this? I am trying to think of ways that our client and I can be notified ahead of time of hardware changes and plan ahead for any needed software changes.

I guess we would also want to know of newly discovered errata as well, when the errata document has changed.

    Jeremy,

I glad to hear that you have resolved the issue.

Registering the kit should put you on a list to receive the updates. Another way to get them is through subscribing to the AM3517 forum [1][2]. In the past, some have not received the updates, so as an extra measure we started posting them to the forums. Will this work for you?

Is there any way I could sign up a couple different email addresses to receive updates?

    Jeremy,

    1. You can register the kit multiple times with different emails

    Or

    2. You can have each of the emails registered and subscribed to the AM3517 forum.

    Or

    3. Do both 1 and 2

You are not authorized to post a reply.
