I plug in the power supply to the wall, and then into the board. But there are two loud clicks when I plug the barrel jack into the IO board. Maybe my barrel socket is broken? It seems to fit OK, but every time I pull it out and push it in I hear these clicks. Strange. Unit powers up, LEDs blink. That’s good!

No, the barrel socket is not broken.

The barrel socket contains a switch. Inserting and removing the barrel from the socket moves the switch down and up. The 'clicks' are the contacts of the switch connecting and disconnecting.
