I've managed to build a (simple) .NET CF v1 application, but now I'm having trouble getting it to auto run at boot.

I put the file in the root directory of the compact flash card with the filename "boot_app.exe" (no quotes), according to the instructions in AN296 and also in the latest "Zoom™ Development Kit Windows® CE Evaluation Guide".

Once CE boots I can open "My Device" -> "Storage Card" and then double click on boot_app (the extension is hidden) and the program runs.

This is using the NK.bin from "LH7A404_DEV_IMAGE_For_All_Other_PNs.zip" in the download section. The program won't run at all using the NK.bin from "A404_Show_Image_For_All_Other_PNs.zip", presumably since the .NET Compact Framework isn't part of the bin file (right?).

    Any suggestions?

You are correct that the .NET CF 1.0 is not included in the Show image.
You'll only be able to run the app in the Dev image.

    Thanks
