Can Sharp LH7A404's SMC Directly interface a Flash module?

    Can Sharp LH7A404 's SMC directly inteface with a flash module say Micron's Q-Flash series. with out help from CPLD and any additional extern timing circuit?

    Yes, the LH7A404 can interface directly to Micron's Q-flash devices.

    The LH7A404-10 card engine actually uses two 16bit chips wired in a 32bit configuration on chipselect 0. We have qualified both Micron Q-flash and Intel Strataflash parts. Some of the part numbers we regularly use are listed on page5 of the card engine schematics.

    The CPLD is only used to reroute chip selects based on uP_MODE3. However, it is not required to route the chipselect through the CPLD if you are doing a custom design.

    Depending on your product requirements, there are standard card engines available with 8MBytes, 16MBytes, or 32MBytes of onboard NOR flash available for your use.
